All about Blogging

Yesterday, a good friend of mine asked me how to blog. I was asked the same question before so I think this is the right time to make a post about blog. I was blogging since 2006 and from that year forth, blogging has really evolved. A situation which may not been expected by Justin Hall, a pioneer blogger who started his first blog way back 1994. According to Wikipedia, the term “weblog” was coined by Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997 and its short form, “blog” was coined by Peter Merholz. Blog is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. It provides commentary on a particular subject and combines text, pictures, videos, links, and other media related to the topic. In the next sections, I will discuss to you everything about blogging based on my personal experience.

How to Blog
Blogging is easy and is absolutely free unless you want to have your own domain name. Some of the popular blog platforms are Wordpress, Movable Type, Blogger, and Live Journal. Sign-up, follow the instructions, and tadaa… You are now ready to blog. For the beginners, I will recommend you to use Blogger because based on my own experience, blogging in Blogger is as easy as 1-2-3.

Building a Brand for your Blog
Like commercial products, your blog must also have a brand. Building a brand for your blog simply means creating a trademark for your blog. Questions like what makes my blog unique from others should start pondering your mind. Creating a good title and description, an eye-catching logo, and a theme are some of the great ways to start building a brand for your blog. You must also have your specific niche. For example, if your blog is about technology, then talk about technology. If your blog is about entertainment, then talk about entertainment.

Building an Audience for your Blog
Do not let your blog be a ghost town. Your blog is not a blog without readers. Join a community of bloggers where you can read other’s blog and let them read yours. You can also promote your blog by telling it to your friends. Submitting your blog to search engines like Yahoo and Google will also be of great help in promoting your blog.

Monetizing your Blog
If you already have regular readers or audience, then it’s about time to monetize your blog. Monetizing your blog means making some money from your blog. Joining different adbrokers like BidVertiser lets you display ads in your blog and they will pay you for every ad that appears in your blog. It is also important to consider that making money from your blog is not that easy unless you have thousands of visitors daily. But it really needs time and patience for you to be able to earn money from blogging.

It is certainly true that you must think before posting stuffs in your blog. You can post your personal experiences, your picture with your family or with your friends, and the like but keep in mind that you are responsible for that. Once the readers saw and read what you have posted, you cannot take it away from their minds or from their computers if they store it. The lesson here is to be careful when posting articles and pictures. Remember that the world is watching you and your blog. Be responsible and always think before you post.
